Privacy Policy
What we collect
If you use the renter assistant, we collect your email address and the answers you choose: for people looking for a place, area, bedrooms, rent range, move-in timing and what matters most; for current renters, area, lease-end timing, what you want from VALIS and, if you give it, your community’s name. If you subscribe to the Industry Brief, we collect your email address and the frequency you choose. If you write to us, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply.
How we use it
We use this information only to send you the ratings you asked for and occasional updates about VALIS studies. We never share your details with apartment communities, including the community you live in, and we do not sell or rent personal information.
Measurement data
VALIS measures how apartment communities respond to standardized inquiries. These records describe businesses, not individual renters. We do not collect information about renters through our measurement process.
Security and abuse prevention
To prevent spam, our forms limit how often they can be submitted from the same network. For this we store a one-way, salted hash of your IP address, never the address itself. When you subscribe to the Industry Brief, your IP address is also passed to Buttondown so that it can screen out spam sign-ups. Each newsletter email includes our postal address and a one-click unsubscribe link.
Where data is stored
Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which also stores form submissions in its D1 database in the United States region we select. Industry Brief subscriptions are managed by Buttondown, which sends the newsletter. Renter assistant requests are not shared with Buttondown. Each processes information under its own privacy terms. Encrypted backups are kept in a private GitHub repository. We will list any other service providers here.
How long we keep it
We keep renter assistant requests and subscriptions until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Encrypted backups are kept for up to 120 days.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails, or ask us to delete your information by writing to jinbo.chen@valisleasing.com.
